About This Project

This project was undertaken for CDL Ltd who have worked in partnership with Stockport Council and Groundwork to invest in the local environment and upgrade a local footpath adjacent to their new offices, The Codeworks. Groundwork were engaged to design a cycleway along part of the Trans-Pennine Trail in Stockport, and alter the existing footpath to a bridleway, suitable for walkers, cyclists and equestrian users.

Horticon were engaged to construct the cycleway. Our works included clearance works, excavation, tar and chip surfacing, installation of street furniture, tree and shrub planting, seeding and reinstatement.

As a result of the project 1.2km of the route has been re-surfaced, from Brinksway Bridge to the M60 underpass, giving commuters and leisure users better access to the off-road routes along the Mersey, linking Stockport Town Centre to Heaton Mersey, Cheadle and Didsbury.

Melissa Johnson, CDL Group Director, said: "This is a fantastic project which really makes the most of our riverside location; providing a green and pleasant space within the local community, and encouraging more people to enjoy using the path. The improved off-road commuter routes will also benefit those who work in the area, as well as local walkers and cyclists."
