Devonshire Will Delight The Senses In New Garden. The idea for a sensory garden at the Devonshire Campus originally came from Sir Christopher Ball, the University’s first Chancellor and his wife Lady Ball, a landscape designer. The space between the Clarendon and Chiswick buildings and training kitchens was established for the location of the project. Lady Ball’s imaginative plan features three circular areas with seating, a water feature, clematis trellis, rose arch, magnolia tree and ferns. The Sensory Garden will be a beautiful and relaxing space for students and staff, as well as a location for meetings, drinks, receptions and events. The University is very grateful for the generous donations received from staff, Friends of the Devonshire, and the community. Three companies were contracted by the University to tender for the project. The successful company was Wilmslow based Horticon. The Garden was officially opened in Spring 2008.
